Rich Remsberg is a researcher and archivist who takes his skills and uses them to create works of art where other eyes might not see any.
The trick is sometimes in juxtaposing various works together to create something beyond them. Other times, as with "Framed Photograph of Don Knotts (Rear View)," it is to notice a detail to the object that might not be the main event for most people, but is of interest to those of us who lurk in the sidelines. In this piece, Remsberg uncovers vintage ads for record player consoles that speak to Remsberg's own obsessions more than a signed greeting from Don Knotts might.
Remsberg's work is on display at Gallery 53 in North Adams as "Historyland." You can find him online at atlasfilms.org.
