MSBA approves Conte project budget: NORTH ADAMS -- The Massachusetts School Building Authority approved the schematic designs for the renovations of Silvio O. Conte Middle School and has agreed to pay up to 80 percent of the project’s eligible expenses or up to a maximum of $23.1 million.

The project, which will turn the former middle school into an elementary school serving grades K-7, was approved during Wednesday’s meeting of the MSBA in Boston. The total project budget is $29.7 million, with the city’s share being about $6 million.

Saying so long to The Spruces? WILLIAMSTOWN -- The town is applying for a Hazard

Mitigation grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to cover the cost of purchasing the Spruces Mobile Home Park, turning it into agricultural and recreational space, and replacing that lost affordable housing with new units on the town’s 30-acre Lowry property off Stratton Road. A decision on the application may come in as few as 60 days.
