One stop for health and human services: NORTH ADAMS -- State and local officials Thursday celebrated the grand opening of the consolidated HHS Center at 37 Main St.

The center offers access to four state agencies, including the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Department of Developmental Services, the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission and the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind. According to the state, DTA alone serves approximately 2,000 area consumers, who will now be able to visit the new 4,700-square-foot center in the city.

Brien Building bought for $210K: NORTH ADAMS -- The former Brien Center building at 25 Marshall St., owned by John and Edith Lew, was auctioned off for $210,000 on Thursday.

Man injured in crash is charged: WILLIAMSTOWN -- A Williamstown man suffered serious injuries from an accident Wednesday night, which also led to his being charged with third offense driving under the influence.

Police Sgt. Scott McGowan said Edgar A. Bump, 40, of Mill Street, has been charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger, passing in violation of pavement markings, speeding and failure to wear a seatbelt.

McGowan said Bump was allegedly traveling westbound on North Hoosac Road in a 2000 Chevy Blazer when he attempted to pass another driver, lost control of his vehicle and struck a telephone pole.

Opening nears for closed bridge: CLARKSBURG -- After being closed for over a year, the East Road bridge is expected to reopen by the end of the month.

At Wednesday night’s selectmen meeting, Town Administrator Thomas Webb told the board a base coat of asphalt should be on the bridge by the end of the week.
