BAY SHORE, N.Y. (AP) -- A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on charges he threatened a shooting at his middle school on New York’s Long Island.

Suffolk County police haven’t released the teen’s name. They say he’s charged with making a terrorist threat.

He was released to his mother and is due in Family Court on Jan. 2.

Police say the boy created a Facebook page using a female classmate’s name. He then allegedly posted a threat that involved committing a shooting at the school on Wednesday.

The Bay Shore School District posted a message on its website saying police had already increased their presence outside all schools after the shootings last week in Newtown, Conn.
