All aboard in Adams and North Adams: NORTH ADAMS -- Passenger rail service is expected to return to Northern Berkshire in 2014, when the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum debuts its "Hoosac Valley Service," on five miles of track running between Adams and North Adams.
"One little known fact is that Berkshire Scenic Railway has been trying to operate train rides up here since 1985," Jay R. Green, director of government affairs and special projects for Berkshire Scenic, said Friday. "Our board of directors, in 1984, began working with the then Berkshire County Commissioners on bringing rail service here, but after a lot of red tape, things fell through We're very grateful, almost 30 years later, to say that Berkshire Scenic is coming to North County."

Inaugural invitation: NORTH ADAMS -- On Monday, 14-year-old Billy Galipeau will get the chance to do something most adults will never do: The Drury High School eighth-grader is traveling to Washington, D.C., to witness President Barack Obama taking the oath of office for his second term, and will attend the Middle School Presidential Inaugural Conference.
"I knew that this was really something, to be able to do this," Billy said.

Park parting ways with DPW: WILLIAMSTOWN -- Scott Park had a major goal for his time working for the Department of Public Works: To make the town the first without any potholes, and he got pretty close, he said.
Park, who served the DPW for 41 years, celebrated his last day Friday, Jan 11.
"I'm probably the only one who worked in all of the departments," he said, referring to the various positions he's held.
