SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- One of the three suspects arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in a Vermont parking lot last year has pleaded guilty to a charge of assault and robbery resulting in injury.
Twenty-two-year-old Jacob Beane of Winooski entered a deal with prosecutors earlier this month. He admitted to fighting 35-year-old Abdul Clay of Winooski the morning of April 23. That happened moments before Clay was shot dead in a South Burlington parking lot.
Prosecutors allege Beane and 38-year-old Robert Dougherty of Winooski planned to rob Clay of crack cocaine. They allege Dougherty shot Clay, who later died. Dougherty has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
The Burlington Free Press reports (http://bfpne.ws/12gdDhr) Beane has sought a plea deal since October. Prosecutors dropped an unrelated theft charge.
