According to North Adams Public Safety Commissioner E. John Morocco, officers were dispatched to 32 Isbell St. at 5:15 p.m. on Friday to respond to a fight involving a baseball bat. When they arrived, they found Erica Rock, 27, of Greylock Avenue unconscious.
"Police investigation revealed that Rock was struck in the head with a glass bottle and also with an aluminum baseball bat." Morocco said.
Rock was transported first to North Adams Regional Hospital and then taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Her condition at Baystate Medical Center was not available.
Morocco said police arrested a suspect not long afterward, Patrick E. Wright, 27, of 10 Isbell Street. He is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with the intent to murder. Morocco said the cause of the incident is still under investigation and further charges could be pending against Wright.
This was the second assault on Isbell Street in a week -- on May 8, Janoi Bee Vilayvanh was arrested after he allegedly smashed a glass bottle over another man’s head during an altercation. The victim was treated at North Adams Regional Hospital for a laceration to the head and neck. Vilayvanh, 18, of Angeli Street was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and mayhem.
