50 years ago today

ADAMS -- Airman Basic James Tomasini, son of Sarah Tomasini of 9 Glen St., is being assigned to the United States Air Force technical training course for fabric-leather-rubber repair specialists at Chanute AFB, Ill. Airman Tomasini, who has completed his basic military training at Lackland AFB, Texas, was selected for the advanced course on the basis of his interests and aptitudes. ADAMS -- Robert Groves, chief boilerman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Lescarbeau of 137 Commercial St., is serving aboard the 75,000-ton attack aircraft carrier USS Constellation, now conducting a shakedown cruise in Caribbean waters. The Constellation is the largest conventionally-powered attack carrier in the world. This is Groves’ second four-year term in the Navy. He enlisted first in 1950 and then re-enlisted in 1955.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Town Clerk Betty Kovacs said that, to date, two candidates for positions on the Mt. Greylock School Committee and one for town moderator have filed nomination papers. Judith Grinnell and Dr. Ira Lapidus, both incumbents on the school committee, has signed nomination papers. William Dudley has signed nomination papers to seek another term as town moderator.

NORTH ADAMS -- Kimberly Daub, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Daub of 121 Versailles Ave., has been named to the dean’s list for the fall term at

Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. Ms. Daub, a member of the class of 1989 who majors in political science, has been accepted into the Venice Study Group and will send the 1987 fall semester in Venice, Italy.

NORTH ADAMS -- In recent action of the North Adams Men’s Basketball League, H.A. George defeated Adams Plumbing, 69-56. Kyle George was high scorer for H.A. George with 20 points, followed by Karl Engwer with 17 and Mark Gilman with 12. Paul Roy led the Plumbers with 17 points.

NORTH ADAMS -- In recent action of the North Adams Men’s Basketball League, Saulnier Surveying defeated Flynn Dagnoli, 80-54. Saulnier Surveying was led by Randy Kinnas with 18 points, followed by Kevin Meehan and Jack Racette with 17 points each, and Todd Andrews poured in 13 points. Brothers Dean and Don Dagnoli led Flynn-Dagnoli. Dean with 19 points and Don had 12.
