MESA, Ariz. -- Williams scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth of game two to salvage a split with Oberlin College on Monday.
The Ephs won the second game 12-10 after losing 7-3 in the opener. Williams (3-6) took advantage of two errors, two hit by pitches, a balk and two hits in that fifth inning to take the lead for good. Lucas Casso got the win, allowing two hits and two runs in an inning of work. David Webster finished with two RBI on the day. The Ephs last three runs of the inning were unearned, including Taylor Mondshein’s second run of the game that put the Ephs ahead.
Jacob Slater got the loss for Williams in the first game, allowing nine hits and seven runs over five innings. The Ephs were hurt by a five-run second from Oberlin that gave the Yeomen a 6-0 lead.
Williams scored three in the third but couldn’t manage any more runs. Cameron Susk had two RBI for the losers, getting both on a single.
Softball gets a sweep
CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Ephs got a sweep, beating Massachusetts Institute of Technology 7-2 and Oberlin College 3-2. Williams is now 5-7 on the year. The Ephs play today against DePauw to round out their Florida trip.
