PITTSFIELD -- The woman police say robbed the Greylock Federal Credit Union on Elm Street and her getaway driver have been arrested following an alleged robbery spree that stretched from Boston to the Berkshires.
Brenda Santos, 22, of Dedham, and Brandon Wood, 31, of Jason Street in Pittsfield, were arrested Wednesday by Brookline Police.
They were apprehended after Brookline authorities learned of their plans to rob two banks there on Wednesday, according to a probable cause report. A third man, William Curtin, 26, of Dedham, was also arrested in that case.
According to Pittsfield Police, Santos is the woman who walked into the Greylock Federal Credit Union's Elm Street branch at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, handed the teller a note and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police said she fled the scene on foot and made off in a car parked at the nearby Harry's Supermarket.
Santos and Wood are also being charged in connection with a bank robbery in Boston on Monday.
In that robbery, Wood allegedly walked into the Eastern Bank on Dartmouth Street in the Back Bay neighborhood, passed the teller a note and made off with $2,000 in cash, according to various news accounts.
In the Pittsfield case, Santos is being charged with unarmed robbery, while Wood will be facing charges of being an accessory.
Wood and Curtin were arrested on a Brookline trolley Wednesday after bank employees there alerted police
Brookline Police said Wood entered the banks intending to rob them, but got spooked on both occasions when he was confronted by bank employees. Police later picked Santos up at a Holiday Inn where the three suspects were staying.
Wood and Curtin were arraigned in a Brookline court on conspiracy to commit a felony charges and have pleaded not guilty.
According to Boston.com, Santos was being sent back to Pittsfield on an arrest warrant. Pittsfield Police Captain John Mullin said he wasn't sure exactly when Wood and Santos would be arraigned here.
The FBI Bank Robbery Task Force is working with the various police agencies in these cases, according to the police report.
