Legion Auxiliary County Council meets
NORTH ADAMS -- Dis trict One American Legion held its County Council meeting Saturday, March 17.
The executive board was call ed to order by Frank R. Stiles Unit 125 District One Di r ector Charlene Gero of Dalton.
Senior Vice President Clem en tine Brothers announced she had tickets for the combined banquet and an ad book that she passed around during the meeting.
Regular meeting was called to order by Gero. Sixteen members were present.
Virginia Schwarzer reported that she has visited Doris Morey in the nursing home.
Unit reports given by North Adams 125, Williamstown 152, Dalton 155 and Adams 160.
Unit reports showed membership as follows: Pittsfield 33, North Adams 94, Willi amstown 99, which is quota, Adams 23 and Sandisfield 11.
Brothers reported on North ampton VA Medical Center. Volunteers are needed to work at various jobs in the offices at the hospital. There will be a talent show on March 22 and Walk for Fitness on May 16.
Anna Farnam reported that several units had participated in many children and youth activities.
Nelson asked members to send her any newspaper articles for the district publicity book.
It was reported that boxes of personal items had been brought to the meeting to be distributed to the woman veterans at Northampton VA. Total cost of cosmetics: $320. This is an annual project of the district past presidents. Nancy
Brothers will deliver the boxes to Northampton VA. Schilling reported that there will be 11 Girls State delegates from District One this year. Girls State orientation is at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, at the Dalton Post home.
Schilling said she received one department scholarship applications from North A dams, Dalton and Pittsfield. All scholarship applications are to be in on or before May 1.
Registration and reservation sheets for convention were distributed. The convention is June 8 through 10 in Marl borough.
Schilling reported on the District Penny Social that was held March 25 in Dalton.
Director Gero announced the convention appointments: page, Tammy Lussier; elections, Brothers; and resolutions, Nelson.
The department membership theme is "Christmas in Massachusetts." District One is doing a skit on candy canes.
The next meeting will be Saturday, May 19, in Cheshire.
