BRATTLEBORO -- This summer, Open Music Collective will expand its programing with Rock Camp’s, Vocal Workshops and more Jazz Studies and Composition for kids.
Starting June 25, OMC will resume its Summer Jazz Intensive for its third year. Last year students worked on improvising: over forms, freeform, using clave and even with dancers from Luminz Studio.
Concepts of practicing, performing and composing will be presented from a faculty who are all performers first. David Goodrich (guitar), Jamie MacDonald (bass) and Doug Raneri (drums) will return, with special guest Jason Robinson (sax) of Amherst College. This is ideal for all ages and levels.
In July, iCompose will return for two week-long camps, from 9-13 and 16-20. Students under age 12 work on music creation: from improvisation to structured musical ideas. They will explore instrumental sounds and put it all together at the end of the week for an informal performance. Each day there will be "composing" time but also chance for performing. All abilities welcome with imagination required. Basic skills needed but teachers will help with getting the music you hear to listeners. Lisa Ferrigno (violin), Aaron Ichiro Hilbun (woodwinds) and Jamie MacDonald will be the faculty.
On July 13-14, OMC will host vocal great Peter Eldridge, member of the Grammy Award-winning New York Voices and critically acclaimed solo artist. On Friday, July 13, Eldridge will perform a
Aug. 6-10 will be the first "Week of Rock." Meet and play with other musicians and get performance and band development coaching from local professionals. Learn how to better rehearse, groove, solo, accompany and meet and play with other musicians. OMC will team up with Headroom Stages and Aaron Chesley (guitar teacher/ensemble coach) and Jamie MacDonald and Doug Raneri. They will be joined by Scott Pomeroy (vocal frontman, guitar) of Orange Crush and Mamba Sons (to name a few) who has a deep resume in all things rock and roll. Students of all ages and levels are welcome.
