DANBURY, Conn. -- A pair of home runs in the second inning was all the offense the SteepleCats needed to avenge their only loss of the season from two days prior.

Brett Clements and Shane O’Connell each blasted their first longballs of the season to give North Adams the early 3-0 lead, and it hung on for a 3-2 win over the Danbury Westerners. Danbury beat North Adams at home Wednesday. At, 6-1, it’s the SteepleCats’ only blemish in the early going.

Clements led off the second with a solo blast. Three batters later, O’Connell drilled a two-run shot over the fence.

Danbury pushed a pair across against starter Chris Bielak in the fourth to draw within one on Andrew Garner’s two-run homer. The pitching staff closed the door from there. Bielak struck out the next batter to end the inning, giving him his fifth and final strikeout of the game. He pitched six innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. Brian Hunter and Matt Longfield each recorded two strikeouts in their inning of work, and Tom Bammann earned the save, recording one strikeout.

The SteepleCats are home all weekend. They play Keene at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and Holyoke at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
