BENNINGTON, Vt. -- Registration is now open for Go the Distance, a 5k Family Fun-Run/Walk sponsored by the Batten Kill Valley Runners to benefit the Peer Support Program at United Counseling Service (UCS).

"With a nice course that winds through Old Bennington, this race has grown over the years to become a favorite family run," said Jo Anne Larsen, race director and manager of community support services at UCS.

This year, the race will be held Saturday, June 23, at 10 a.m., with the start and finish at 316 Dewey St. in Bennington. Go the Distance is for people of all ages and abilities. For more information, call Nancy Donlon at 802-442-5491 ext. 483, or email JoAnne Larsen at jlarsen@ucsvt.org.

Advance registration includes a free Go the Distance T-shirt and is $15 until June 20, with a discount for BKVR club members. Registration at the start opens at 9 a.m. for $20 with t-shirts available for first come first served.

Running with two other family members or more? Get a family discount registration for only $10 per person.

illness can have its ups and downs," Larsen said. "That’s where the Peer Support Program comes in. When someone is depressed or down, the person can call Peer Support and talk with a volunteer, someone who has been there before and understands what they are going through," Larsen said.
