NORTH ADAMS -- Robert McConnell, Navy fire control technician seaman apprentice, has been ordered to sea duty. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John McConnell of 17 Montana St. He has not been assigned to a ship yet and is still at the Newport, R.I., Naval Station, where he has been stationed since September. ADAMS -- Edward Cwalinski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cwalinski of 5 Oak Lane, has completed his first week of Army basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. Graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in North Adams on June 10, he enlisted two days later for three years of Army service.

CLARKSBURG -- Monica McLain, Clarksburg’s town clerk, has been appointed to fill the post of tax collector as well. Mrs. McLain, who was appointed to fill the town clerk’s job upon the resignation of Barbara Perry last fall, also will fill a vacancy in her new post. She succeeds Jean Licht, who did not seek reelection.
ADAMS -- Marine Cpl. Stanley Fryc, son of Stanley and Mary Fryc of Adams, recently deployed to the Republic of Korea to participate in the Korean Incremental Training Package with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Cpl. Fryc joined the Marine Corp in November 1983.

NORTH ADAMS -- The American Legion Auxiliary is holding its 59th annual Massachusetts Girls state this week
NORTH ADAMS -- The American Legion Auxiliary held Boys State June 8-14 at Stonehill College in North Easton. Representatives were Kevin Lamb, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lamb and Daniel Nolan, son of John and Susan Nolan, both juniors at Drury High School.
