Heritage State Park pitch: NORTH ADAMS -- The city hopes a major proposal to privatize Western Gateway Heritage State Park sets the stage for development, tourism and prosperity for the park’s existing tenants.

The new proposal passed the city’s Redevelopment Authority on Tuesday, with words of strong approval from city officials, board members, Department of Conservation and Recreation representatives and some city residents and park tenants.

"This is just very exciting news for North Adams," Mayor Richard Alcombright said at the meeting. "I think we’re on the cusp of some very important growth and development. ..."

No block party this year: ADAMS -- The town did not receive over $1 million in 2012 Community Development Block Grant funds it was seeking by application. The state issued $26.8 million with the program earlier this year. We speak with Director of Community Development Donna Cesan on the disappointing news.

A ray of sunshine: CHESHIRE -- The Planning Board accepted a proposal that will set a 570,000 kilowatt solar array at the renovated Hoosac Valley High School building on Savoy Road at a meeting Monday night.

Board member Bernard Bator described the proposed project as "well worth the efforts" and voiced strong support, saying Adams and Cheshire stand to benefit financially from the project, and students will benefit from advanced environmental education and awareness.

Teacher honored at state house: Paula Plock, a teacher at Williamstown Elementary School, was honored Monday at the State House as one of the finalists for the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year award.
