Working behind the scenes: NORTH ADAMS -- Creating the nonprofit North Adams Development Trust Inc. as a means to raise financing and develop a proposal for a private developer to take over the management of Western Gateway Heritage State Park is only one of several items the Partnership for North Adams has in the works.

"The idea behind the Partnership has always been that of true community economic development, where we go out and engage with the private sector, identifying projects and matching them with investors," John B. DeRosa, president of the Partnership for North Adams, said Wednesday.

He said the three civic leaders named as the board members of the North Adams Development Trust Inc. -- Attorney Bruce Grinnell, Duncan Brown, retired CEO of Cederworks Inc., and entrepreneur Malcolm Smith -- are all volunteers who have been working diligently to bring

to life a proposal for the redevelopment of Heritage State Park.

The proposal, which passed the city’s Redevelopment Authority on Tuesday, allows the nonprofit to negotiate a 20-year ground-lease through a to-be-named for-profit limited liability company that would take over the management and maintenance of the park.

Victim identified: WILLIAMSTOWN -- The District Attorney’s office released the name of the man killed by a train in town on recently.

Peter M. Mitchell, 67, of Williamstown, was killed by a Pan Am Southern train on Saturday, June 9.

Crash sends seven to hospital: WILLIAMSTOWN -- A two-car crash on Route 7 by the 1896 House sent seven people to the hospital this afternoon.

Organizer: ‘Hogs on the Farm’ will meet requirements: WILLIAMSTOWN -- Local permitting and licensing requirements will be met in time for a controversial motorcycle rally, "Hogs on the Farm," to be held in mid-August, according to the event’s organizer.

Charles "Rusty" Ransford said Wednesday that he has begun the process of applying for the necessary permits and licenses after receiving a letter from Williamstown’s town counsel outlining what approvals are needed in order for the event to be held legally.

"We’re going forward with it," he said.
