NORTH ADAMS -- Three staff members of the North Adams office of the Division of Employment Security are among 46 who have been named as eligible for promotion by the state Civil Service Commission. They are L. Elaine Stone, a temporary senior clerk interviewer, and Doris Benedetti and Irmalee Trottier, both electro-tape typewriter operators. CLARKSBURG -- The appointment of two teachers for next year at the Briggsville School has been announced by the School Committee. Judith Holt, of Pownal Center, Vt., will teach Grade 6, and Robert Swain Jr., of 472 Barbour St. in North Adams, will teach social studies and English in Grades 7 and 8.

NORTH ADAMS -- Deerfield Machine breezed past the Elks 25-3 in Minor League baseball action. Donald Reynolds went 4-for-4, including a home run, a double and two singles. Jason Russell had a 3-for-3 day, including a home run, a double and a single. For the Elks, Clayton D’Almasso had a triple, Dominic Mondia had a double, and Dave Vidal singled.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Pitcher Colin O’Neil struck out 15 batters and allowed just five hits and two walks to help Rotary get past Bettes Life & Times 6-3 in the Williamstown Little League. NORTH ADAMS -- Sarah Lawson, of Adams, and Tessa Dassati, of North Adams, have been selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) from July 15-25 in Washington, D.C. The NYLC is a leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Four Berkshire County high school students have been selected to participate in a month-long research program in the biology department at Williams College. Sandra Beverly and Emily Hogeland, of Mt. Greylock Regional High School; Lisa Biros, of Hoosac Valley High School; and Ryan Shewcraft, of Taconic High School will spend four weeks during July at Williams.
