NORTH ADAMS -- Two men have been promoted in the North Adams Post Office, as the result of retirements and promotions last year. Arthur Wilson, of 686 Union St., has been promoted for career substitute clerk to regular clerk. Richard Shand has been promoted from career substitute carrier to regular carrier. NORTH ADAMS -- Pfc. William Toniatti, 20, son of Mrs. Ruth Bernardi, of 42 Tyler St., is home on 30-day leave after re-enlisting in Germany for three more years of Army service. His leave will end July 14 when he will report for re-shipment overseas to join his outfit, the 3rd Medium Tank Battalion of the 37th Armored Division, with headquarters in Sheinfurt, Germany.

NORTH ADAMS -- Marine Pvt. James Boucher, son of Paul Boucher, of 931Ž2 Church St., has completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. During the 11-week training cycle, he was taught the basics of battlefield survival. Pvt. Boucher joined the Marine Corps in December 1986.

NORTH ADAMS -- At a brief ceremony and reception last month, six senior students from area high schools received certificates marking the successful completion of a course in medical terminology and transcription, sponsored by North Adams Regional Hospital. POWNAL. Vt. -- Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Anthony Dewey, son of Rena Morrison, of Pownal, is halfway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, based in Norfolk, Va. Dewey joined the Navy in June 1989.

ADAMS -- Sarah Lawson of Adams is a recipient of the Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award. She is a senior a Hoosac Valley High school and was selected for this honor based on her exceptional academic achievements, school activities, and community service. The award carries with it a $20,000 scholarship ($5,000 per year) for four years of study at Wells College.
