ADAMS -- Two new enlistees were listed as members of the 1059th Transportation Tactical Carrier Co., and are at Fort Dix, N.J., for six months’ training. They are Clayton Couture Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Couture of 2 Forest Park Ave., and William Shephard, son of Mrs. Phyllis Shephard of 2 Granite St., North Adams. NORTH ADAMS -- George Murray, U.S. Navy aviation electronics technical second class, son of Mrs. Rose Murray of 69 Veazie St., has returned to the Naval Air Station at Miramar, Calif., prior to deployment to the western Pacific aboard the carrier USS Ranger. He was among participants in a two-week gunnery exercise in June at Fallon, Nev.

ADAMS -- Tracie Fred erick, daughter of Sandra and Lawrence Frederick of Route 116, a sophomore at Hoosac Valley High School, has been chosen as a semifinalist in the Massachusetts National Miss Teenage Pageant. Miss Fred erick was one of the 16 girls named semifinalists in the annual pageant held at the Worcester Marriott Hotel June 19-21.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Williamstown School Comm ittee has awarded its second annual Helen G. Renzi Award to Margo Guernsey, Molly Windover and Anthony Din tino, all graduating sixth graders. The award was established last year in honor of retiring superintendent Helen Renzi. The students will receive a gift certificate towards the purchase of $25 worth

NORTH ADAMS -- Three McCann Technical High School students brought home the gold medal from the state’s SkillUSA-VICA competition after placing first at a national competition Friday. North Adams residents Keith Roy, Kevin Poette and Shane Naughton, who graduated from McCann last month, traveled to Kansas City, Mo., and beat out 26 other secondary education teams.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Stephen Stroud, a science teacher at Pine Cobble School, and his sixth-grade class, worked hard at giving a helping hand to migratory birds that pass through town. Stroud’s science class is a six-week bird curriculum where the students learn about birds and their migratory paths and patterns. The students are Andrew Alden, Hadley Ameen, Ethan Cohane-Mann, Ilana Cohen, Wyatt Demo, Tyler Filiault, Cara Kennedy, Josh Landes, Leah Rome and Carolyn Wendorf-French.
