NORTH ADAMS -- The promotion of Alfred Bourdon of West Road, Clarksburg, to the position of foreman of the shipping and heat seal departments of the Sprague Electric Co., has been announced by Robert Teeple, factory manager of the Marshall Street plant. Mr. Bourdon began in the automatic rolling department, transferred to the shipping department in 1950 and was named a supervisor in 1953. NORTH ADAMS -- A North Adams sailor has some friends in the Greek navy now. He is Lawrence Keating, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Keating of 17 Phelps Ave., and a radar man third class aboard the destroyer USS Corry, operating in the Mediterranean as a unit of he 6th U.S. Fleet. Keating enlisted in the navy July 13, 1960.

NORTH ADAMS -- Peter Tatro, son of Fred and Janet Tatro of 9 Seminole Dr., has been promoted to the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army. He is an equipment records and parts specialist in West Germany with the 62nd Aviation Company. Sgt. Tatro is a 1979 graduate of Drury Senior High School.
NORTH ADAMS -- Brent Wiencek and Karl Engwer combined to pitch a two-hitter as Deerfield Machine beat Morrison Berkshire 21-6 in North Adams Minor League baseball. Donald Reynolds was the leading hitter for Deerfield with four hits, including two doubles. Engwer and Wiencek added three hits each. Tony Iorio collected both hits for Morrison

NORTH ADAMS -- In Northern Berkshire Women’s Softball, South Side squeaked by Ruff Cuts 11-10. Nanette Maturski got the win on the mound and Kari Zwiercan took the loss. Maturski went 3-for-5 for the winners. Manna Mason and Deb Caladarah had two hits each. Krista Chilson and Sara Mantello each went 3-for-4 in the loss.
NORTH ADAMS -- In North Adams Men’s Softball League action, Tatro Co ntracting defeated Discount Rentals 16-5. Trevor Tatro had four hits, including a grand slam to lead the victors. Leon Thomas had a home and three hits and Bob Thomas also had three hits. For Home Discount, Ken Kelley, Chris Lock, Tom Desormeaux and John Duquette all had two hits.
