LANESBOROUIGH -- Edith Fagley, 90, of Lane sborough completed a skydive under the instruction of Jump Town Skydiving in Orange on Saturday, June 30.

She received the opportunity to skydive as a 90th birthday gift in August last year and was accompanied in flight by her son, Gil Fagley, 45, of Lanesborough, and daughter, Berta Fagley, 51, of Pittsfield.

Without flinching, Edith Fagley took her position at the open door of the plane at an altitude of 13,500 feet before leaping into a free fall of 110 mph.

"It’s so beautiful. I can see forever," she said over and over, finally free of her cane and walker. She flew in tandem with an experienced skydiver before gliding into a soft landing at Orange Airport.

Upon hearing of an older woman who made the same jump, she responded, "I’ll be back."

Edith Fagley can now add this to her list of extraordinary things completed in her 90th year, which includes setting foot in the final three of all 50 states, zip-lining in the White Mountains, riding the Disney World rollercoasters, getting a tattoo and going for a hot air balloon ride at the Green River Festival.

"It’s been the best year of my life!" she said.
