NORTH ADAMS -- After losing the first game of the three-game championship series, IBerkshires completed the comeback with a 10-5 victory over Consigli to claim the North Adams Babe Ruth title Wednesday evening at the Alcombright Complex.
A day after pitching a rocky seventh inning, Eric Hirsch took the mound as IBerkshires' starter. His performance was drastically different. He pitched four solid innings, giving up just three runs on three hits and struck out two to earn the win.
Shayne Garvey came in with one out in the fifth inning and finished off the game.
IBerkshires got off to a great start with a three-run first inning for some immediate breathing room. They gave it back in the third, but with consecutive three-run innings in the fourth and fifth, built an insurmountable lead.
Hirsch was instrumental in the offense. He finished the day 2 for 2 and a sacrifice fly to drive in three runs. Jake Benzinger scored twice and had an RBI.
Adam Dufour was 2 for 3 for Consigli with an RBI, while Joe Liporace was 1 for 3.
Prior to the game, season awards were handed out. Rookie of the Year: Austin Miller. Jason Dupris Award: Brody Alpiere and Logan Rumbolt. Batting King: Joe Liporace and Jake Benzinger. Most Valuable Player: Jake Benzinger.
