WILLIAMSTOWN -- Pop-folk legend Art Garfunkel will perform at The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute next month.
The puffy-haired half of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, known for his mellifluous voice and poetic songwriting, will play the Williamstown museum’s theater on Sat urday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m.
As a solo artist, actor and poet, Garfunkel has crafted a broad creative career since his break with Paul Simon in 1970. Nonetheless, many still best recognize the countertenor for the pair’s Grammy-winning songs "Mrs. Robinson" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
Garfunkel, who is 70, released his first solo work in 1973, and in 1998 won a Grammy Award for best children’s album. He has appeared in films including "Catch-22," "Carnal Knowledge" and, most recently, "The Rebound" in 2010, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The concert at The Clark will offer locals another opportunity to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee after the "Simon & Garfunkel: Old Friends Live on Stage" tour visit to Tanglewood was canceled in July 2010. The date had been postponed indefinitely due to Garfunkel’s vocal paresis, a condition which causes hoarseness and throat pain.
His appearance in William stown is in support of the Aug. 28 release of "The Singer," a two-CD, 34-song collection that ranges from the first Simon & Garfunkel release, "Wednesday Morning, 3 a.m.," to his 2007 solo
