Time approaching for public safety post: NORTH ADAMS -- Mayor Richard J. Alcombright believes the city will make an offer to one of the final candidates in line for the commissioner of public safety position within the next two weeks.
In the meantime, Acting Commissioner E. John Morocco will put off his retirement for at least another month, allowing time for the next commissioner to arrive and transition into the position.

The new dynamic of directing: NORTH ADAMS -- Jackie DeGiorgis is used to being on stage and directing one-act plays on her own, but when the curtain rises on Mill City Production's "The Fourth Wall," tonight at 8 p.m., she'll
"Last year, I directed our production of ‘Steel Magnolias,' but I had done that with Michael Grogan," she said Thursday. "It's quite interesting to direct a full-length play on my own. As an actress, you're really focused on one character and portraying it correctly. You're responsible for everything about that one character. As a director, you're responsible for all of the characters, the lighting, the set design -- everything. I have a lot more respect for directors."

Crash closes stretch of Route 7: WILLIAMSTOWN -- An accident last night on Route 7 near Sweet Brook involved a motorcycle and several cars and led to traffic being detoured around the site of the crash.

Closing for continued construction: WILLIAMSTOWN -- A section of North Hoosac Road will be closed for three days next week, as work continues to rebuild and improve the road.
Highway Superintendent Scott Park said Wednesday that North Hoosac Road will be closed between Cole Avenue and Simonds Road (Route 7) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, Thursday, July 19 and Friday, July 20 for grading.
Road closure signs will be posted at the intersection of North Hoosac and Simonds roads, the intersection of Bridges and Simonds roads and the intersection of Cole Avenue and North Hoosac Road, he said.
