NORTH ADAMS -- Three city residents were arrested Thursday in connection with a break-in and larceny at 414 West Main St., and police reports indicate the crime was drug-motivated.

Wyatt E. Demo, 23, of Chestnut Street, Brett E. Logan Jr., 22, of East Main Street, and Jordan R. McDonald, 22, of Mohawk Forest Boulevard, all face larceny, breaking and entering, and drug charges.

The break-in was reported at 10:45 p.m. on Thursday by a nearby resident to the West Main Street address -- where a vacant house is located. The caller reportedly observed three men throwing metal from the building down to the street and loading it into a vehicle.

Officer Ben Austin, Sgt. James Foley and Officer Brad Vivori of the North Adams Police Department responded, and the men were arrested after police stopped a Toyota Four Runner reported to contain the suspects on Grimes Street.

The operator, Demo, had allegedly fled in the vehicle and attempted to evade police.

Logan and McDonald accompanied Demo.

Copper scrap was found to be the stolen cargo, and each suspect was in possession of heroin, according to Sgt. James Burdick of the North Adams Police Department.

A pair of brass knuckles was also secured by police from Demo’s person.

The three were taken to North Adams Police Department, where each was held on $1,040 bail.

The men were arraigned at Northern Berkshire District Court on Friday.
