NORTH ADAMS -- The North Adams Post 125 baseball team continues it quest for a state title with its first sectional game at 1 p.m. Sunday at Alcombright Complex.
Post 125, the overall No. 1 seed, plays host to Springfield Post 21 in the top half of Bracket A. If North Adams wins, it plays home on Tuesday for the Bracket A championship. If North Adams loses Sunday, it must turn right around and play again on Monday and win to play Tuesday.
Should North Adams make it out of Bracket A, it will play the winner of Bracket B for the Central-Western Mass. title. The date, time and location have not been announced. That winner advances to the final level of the state tournament.
All games are nine innings.
Robert Jutras will take to the mound fro Post 125 on Sunday. He is the only pitcher to have seen the mound in the last two games for North Adams. He beat Post 68 with complete-game performances in consecutive games, including the county championship. Chase Preite will be first to relieve him should he run into trouble. Jutras, regardless of how well he pitches, though, will not throw back-to-back complete games in the immediate future (barring consecutive mercy-rule victories). A new rule limits pitchers from pitching more than 12 innings in three games.
