A&B charges follow fight: NORTH ADAMS -- A Danbury, Conn., man claims that he was only defending himself when he pulled a knife out of pocket and pointed it at another man in the parking lot outside of the Family Dollar Store on Friday night.
Jordan R. Yaruss, 37, of Bear Mountain Road, Danbury, Conn., pleaded not guilty to a single count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Northern Berkshire District Court on Monday.
Yaruss was released on his own personal recognizance by Judge Michael Ripps and a pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 18.
According to a report filed by North Adams Police Officer Benjamin Austin, officers were called to the parking lot outside of the Family Dollar store for an ongoing fight that began at Desperado's Restaurant on Eagle Street at about 7:53 p.m. Friday. The report states that police were initially called for a fight involving a "victim who was chasing his assailant down the street."
Upon arriving at the scene, police reportedly found Daniel Chao, of North Adams, recording Yaruss with his cell phone's video camera. The report also states Yaruss allegedly had a black Leatherman knife in his pocket and that both men were handcuffed and read their Miranda Rights.
