NORTH ADAMS -- A larceny reported Saturday from West’s Package and Variety led to charges in court Monday against a city resident.

Adam M. Garner, 27, of Ashland Street, is charged with larceny over $250 and possession of a Class B drug.

Store employees Aaron P. Durant and Dillon R. Flynn reported the theft at 10:46 p.m. on Saturday.

According to a police report filed by Trooper Anthony Beverly, of the North Adams Police Department, Flynn said Garner had entered the back room of the 365 State Road store without permission and taken a brown paper bag containing lottery money, along with additional cash.

Flynn allegedly confronted Garner, and Garner handed Flynn the bag, along with $300 dollars from his pocket and one Suboxone tablet, and left the store running westbound. Beverly’s report notes that it’s believed the last item -- a prescription medication used to treat opiate addiction -- was handed over accidentally. Garner’s arrest followed the viewing of the store’s surveillance tapes.

Beverly arrested Garner shortly after near Brayton Hill Apartments, having attained the license plate number of his 2011 Toyota Corolla.

At the station, Garner allegedly admitted to the entirety of what occurred, according to the report. Beverly notes that it’s "not fully known" whether Garner left the store with any stolen money.
