VFW Auxiliary holds picnic, plans bazaar

NORTH ADAMS -- The Ladies Auxiliary to the Dr. George L. Curran Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 996 held its annual July picnic and meeting Sunday, July 29, at the home of Terry Vivori in Clarks burg.

Seventeen members and two guests enjoyed a picnic lunch, which consisted of hot dogs, ham burgers, salads and des serts.

A business meeting was held, chaired by President Heather Patton.

Reports given and action taken were:

Veterans and Family Support -- Chairwoman Mary Risch reported on recent donations by Soldier On at the Northampton VA site. She also gave a report on the recent ward picnic held at the VA Hospital facility. Stella Wibby and Celeste Kordana presented the auxiliary with $125, which was raised at the Becket fair on a quilt raffle for this project.

Cancer Aid & Research -- Chairwoman Margaret Para dise informed the members that the cancer pins are available. They are pewter dragons and the donation is $3. She also announced the quilt raffle will be ongoing. Tickets are available.

Risch was named chairwo man of the Street Fair booth, which will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15. There will be a baked goods table, raffles and a children’s game. Further information may be obtained by calling her at 413-743-5040.

There was a discussion of the annual bazaar, which will be held Sept. 29 at the post home. Co-chairwomen are Mary Williams and Cynthia

A donation was made to the Department’s Junior Vice Pre sident’s Finance "Fun Lotto."

Youth Activities Chairwo man Spencer said this year’s fourth and final picnic at the Mary Jezyk Sunshine Camp was held Aug. 1. She thanked all the members who assisted in any way.

It was announced that several members will attend the kickoff for the Department Aux iliary (formally the Fall Con ference) program for 2012-2013. This will be held in Medway on Aug. 11.

Bingo was enjoyed and prizes won.

The next meeting will be Sunday, Aug. 26, at the post home.
