Judge Michael J. Ripps set his bail at $100,000 cash after hearing arguments after hearing arguments from the prosecution and defense attorneys. His case was continued until Sept. 7, when it is expected to be bound over to Berkshire Superior Court.

Tax delinquency on the rise: WILLIAMSTOWN -- The town is dealing with an increase in delinquent taxes for fiscal 2012. Tax Collector and Treasurer Janet Saddler said Friday that 11 local properties totaling $88,000 in taxes will be advertised for tax taking next week. That number is up from the average of eight properties that make it that far in the process, she said. Originally the amount of unpaid taxes was $224,000 as of May 1. Saddler said she couldn't say what was causing the increase in delinquent taxes because each case is different, but the economy isn't the problem.
