ADAMS -- Three people were arrested on drug charges Friday night at the Dug Out Motel in connection with a crack-cocaine and heroin dealing operation.
Stephen J. Sitton III, 36, of Adams Street in Hartford, Conn.; Sid E. Dudley, 40, of Howland Avenue; and Nita Gomes, 18, of Howland Avenue were arraigned in Northern Berkshire District Court on Monday, each on charges of possession of a Class A drug with intent to distribute, possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws and being present where heroin is kept.
Gomes faces an additional Class A drug possession charge for heroin allegedly collected from her person at the scene.
The three are being held at Berkshire County Jail & House of Correction on $10,000 bail for Sitton and Dudley, and $5,000 bail for Gomes.
According to a police report from Adams Police Department Detective Lawrence Ordyna, authorities executed a no-knock search warrant at room No. 1 in the Howland Avenue motel on Friday, Aug. 10, at roughly 9:15 p.m.
"Seized inside the room and on Sitton was $1,800 in crack-cocaine and $1,160 in heroin," Ordyna said Saturday.
Ordyna’s report lists more than 20 bags of crack-cocaine and 58 bags of heroin as the total amount of drugs found in the room. Investigation of drug dealing at the motel began one month prior to the arrests.
"[The arrests] are all part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of heroin and crack-cocaine in the town of Adams," Ordyna said Monday. "[Police were alerted] by observed activity and drug dealing at the motel."
Members of the Berkshire County Drug Task Force, Adams Police Department, Lanesborough Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Berkshire Narcotics and Detective Unit, North Adams Police Department and Pittsfield Police Department assisted in the search.
At the scene, a minor who was also present told Ordyna during questioning that "Dudley, Sitton and Gomes were working as a team selling [the drugs] out of room No. 1," the report states.
After the arrests, a Berkshire clerk-magistrate decided that probable cause exists for the charges, and the three were held at the Adams Police Department on $50,000 bail before Monday’s arraignment.
Pretrial dates for Dudley, Sitton and Gomes have been scheduled for Sept. 7.
