NORTH ADAMS -- Douglas Diggins, 21, of 96 East Quincy St., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Diggins, has begun three years of Army service a Fort Dix, N.J., after enlisting through the Army Recruiting Office in this city. Under the Army’s "Choice, not Chance" program he elected to receive training in carrier and radio repair. ADAMS -- Four officer vacancies were filled be Burnette-Bednarz Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at a meeting Sunday night. Elected and installed were the following: Senior vice commander, Francis Mahar; junior vice commander, Richard Burnette; quartermaster, Richard Farnham; and chaplain, Julius Herrmann.

NORTH ADAMS -- Altiere’s beat Deep-Thompson 95-58 in the Men’s Summer Basketball League. Ken Sprague threw in 28 points to help Altiere’s. Paul Gaudreau had 13 points and John Swift and Beanie Shepard each had 11 points. Jason Sniezek had 23 points to lead Deep-Thompson. Lyle Delmolino had 17 points.

ADAMS -- Dennis Pause, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pause, of 28 Meadow St., will graduate Aug. 22 from the physician assistant program at Kings College in Wilkes Barre, Pa. He has been accepted into a one year general surgical residency for exceptional physicians assistants at St. Vincent’s of Richmond Medical Center in Staten Island, N.Y.

ADAMS -- In recent action from the Northern Berkshire Women’s Softball League, LA Trends/Physical Therapy defeated Moonlight/ Adams Co-op, 8-6. In the win, Renee Royal and Jill Christiansen went 2-for-4 and Kathleen Paradon went 3-for-4. For Moonlight, Veronica Bosley and Nancy Bassi had three hits each and Chris Howard had two.

POWNAL, Vt. -- Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class James Mottor, son of Jeanne and Mike Mottor, of North Pownal, recently visited Crete, Greece while assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 15, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Va. He joined the Navy in August 1993.
