POWNAL, Vt. -- State police said they are investigating a one-vehicle rollover crash that happened Tuesday morning.
According to police, Frank E. Burdick, 33, was driving south on Route 7 at 6:29 a.m. in a 2002 Mercury Cougar. Burdick told police he swerved to avoid hitting a deer and struck a rock ledge on the southbound shoulder, causing his vehicle to overturn and come to a stop in the middle of the lane.
Police said Burdick was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for evaluation. His vehicle was considered totaled. According to Trooper James Wright, Burdick was suspected of having been under the influence of a regulated drug at the time of the crash and a blood sample was taken. The investigation is still in progress, he said.
