WILLIAMSTOWN -- A former member of the Lanesborough School Com mittee will now serve on the Mount Greylock Regional School Committee.
Sheila Hebert was appointed to fill the remaining two years of a four-year term during a joint meeting of the School Committee and the Lanesborough and Williams town selectmen Tuesday night. The term, which expires November 2014, was previously held by Shari Peltier. Elected by write-in vote in November 2010, Peltier resigned from the School Committee effective Aug. 1.
Hebert was the lone candidate for nomination to the seat. She was unable to attend the meeting because she had to move her son into college, School Committee Member David Backus said.
Backus read a prepared statement from Hebert in which she outlined her interest in serving on the Mount Greylock School Committee.
Hebert said in the statement that she served on the Lanesborough School Com mittee for 10 years, having finished her final term in June. During that time, she was involved in the process of forming School Union 71 and then the merger of the superintendency union’s central office with that of the Mount Greylock Regional School District, she said.
Her two sons have gone through Mount Greylock, and she has a daughter who is a junior at the school, she said. She believes children should get the best education possible and teachers should have the tools they need to provide the best education, she said.
