Crowds come out for Michael DeMarsico: NORTH ADAMS -- A city in mourning turned out in remembrance of U.S. Army Pfc. Michael DeMarsico II Friday, along with city, state and federal officials, members of the military and scores of Patriot Guard Riders.
At the wake for the city native killed in Afghanistan, a line of people spanning the length of Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, West Chapels, gathered before calling hours began at 2 p.m., continuously growing down the sidewalk of West Main Street until doors opened.

Sit-down with U.S. Rep. Neal: NORTH ADAMS -- The Transcript held an editorial board meeting today with U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, D-Springfield. The Congressman, a candidate for the new 1st Congressional District seat to be decided in the Thursday, Sept. 6 primary, spoke with the Transcript about Social Security, Medicare, Wall Street reform and the issues facing Northern Berkshire residents.

Verizon 4G LTE on the horizon? NORTH ADAMS -- Verizon Wireless rolled out its 4G LTE coverage in 11 towns in Berkshire County, including Adams and Williamstown, in late August. However, the city wasn't one of them.
While Verizon officials are mum about the plans for when they will launch coverage in North Adams, the company has been before the planning board to upgrade a local cell tower.

Shape up or tear down: NORTH ADAMS -- Michael Hernandez has until the end of September to bring 160 (rear) Eagle St. up to code or raze it, before the city steps in and has it torn down.
Hernandez asked the City Council to extend out the order on property, which was originally declared a public nuisance in 2001, to December, when his building permit expires. However, the council gave him until the end of the month.
