ADAMS -- Adams-Cheshire Regional School District (ACRSD) staff all donned identical red shirts for the first day of school Friday, a show of solidarity organized by the Adams-Cheshire Teachers Association.
C.T. Plunkett Elementary School principal Kristen Gordon, who will step into retiring district Superintendent Alfred Skrocki's role in early November, called it a "perfect first day."
"Finally feel like I've got it down pat and now I'm going to be leaving," she joked.
With an all-but new high school on Savoy Road opening today and three days of "very successful" professional development wrapping up at Plunkett, Gordon said the district has a lot to look forward to this year.
"The overall flow feels great right now in the district, and most importantly, it feels right for the kids," she said. "We're looking forward to a great school year."
Elizabeth Alibozek, a second-grade teacher at Plunkett and member of Adams-Cheshire Teachers Association, said the district shared the cost of T-shirts for "administrators down to the kitchen staff and anyone who'd come into contact with a child today."
"We wanted to come together in unity," Alibozek said. "With the new [Hoosac Valley Middle & High School] opening and everything else that's happening, we thought it'd be a nice gesture for the kids to start the first day together as a district."

To start the school year, Gordon is balancing her time spending two-and-a-half days a week at Plunkett helping to acclimate her replacement, new principal Michelle Colvin, and the remaining time each week training under Skrocki.
Gordon and Alibozek expressed thanks to the community for their support over the past eventful year.
"Thanks to the communities of Adams and Cheshire for approving the [Hoosac Valley renovation] project and their constant support," Alibozek said. "They've done their job, now it's time for us to do ours."
