WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Harrison Gallery will present a solo exhibition of paintings by Jamie Young from Oct. 6 to 31.

An opening reception with the artist will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m., and is open to the public.

Young began sketching at age 4 and sold her first painting by age 16. She pursued her art ambitions at the University of Massachusetts and has taught her craft at the Guild Art Cen ter in Northampton, Studio School in Springfield, Hill Institute in Florence and Conway School of Landscape Design in Conway.

As a full-time farmer in Ashfield, raising horses and bringing in the hay, Young has an intimate relationship with the natural world. The subjects she paints are all around her and she delights in watching them change with the seasons.

Dedicated to the en plein air tradition, Young paints on site and uses location sketches -- sometimes traveling to other countries to create these quick images.

The Harrison Gallery is at 39 Spring St. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
