Looking back at what’s to come: NORTH ADAMS -- Sixty years after she was crowned queen of the Fall Foliage Festival, Barbara (Roberts) Marceau still remembers being crowned by Mayor Ernest Rosasco during a ball at the North Adams Armory.
The queen and her court were selected the night before, during a fashion show, that was part of the week-long Fall Foliage Festival in 1952.
"I was 18 and had graduated from St. Joseph’s High School the year before. I don’t remember being on a float or if there was a parade," Marceau, who now lives in California with her husband, Colburn "Colby" Marceau, said Tuesday during a visit to the Transcript.
The Fall Foliage Festival, which began in 1948 under the auspices of the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce’s retail division, ended that year. The festival resurfaced in 1956, with a focus on promoting
On Sunday, the chamber will keep that tradition alive when the 57th annual Northern Berkshire Fall Foliage Parade steps off on Curran Highway at 1 p.m.

Williamstown well online: WILLIAMSTOWN -- Over two and a half years after Williamstown began digging a new well, it was connected to the town’s drinking water supply Monday.
Public Works Director Timothy Kaiser said Thursday that he was relieved the project, which hit many snags along the way, was finally done, and that the new well was pumping about 550 gallons of water a minute, which was enough to maintain the town’s water demand.

Festival flagged in alcohol compliance check: WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Williamstown Theatre Festival will receive a letter of reprimand from the Selectmen after failing an alcohol compliance check in August.
The Selectmen unanimously agreed earlier this week to send the letter, which also requested that the organization report to the board any adjustments in oversight and operation of its concessions before its summer 2013 season.

Planning ahead after renovation: CHESHIRE -- With the Hoosac Valley Middle & High School atop Savoy Road now completely renovated, maintenance is now on the minds of Adams-Cheshire Regional School District (ACRSD) officials.
A district subcommittee on maintenance, headed up by ACRSD committee member Stephen Vigna, is taking a look at the district’s past five-year plans, hoping to update, recalculate and prioritize future projects at its schools.
