50 years ago today

CLARKSBURG -- The award of Eagle Scout, highest rank in Boy Scouting, will be conferred on two members of Troop 62 at a Court of Honor planned for Saturday. The recipients will be Gary Dickin son, a charter member of the troop when it was reactivated in 1957, and Bruce Bona, who became a Scout a year later. SAVOY -- The Volunteer Fire Department, with 18 members present, held its an nual meeting last night and elected Donald Vincent as chief. Others elected were: captains William Reeves and Ralph Sherman, lieutenants John Pavia and Harold Kemp, secretary John Pavia, and treasurer Gordon Estes.

NORTH ADAMS -- Weekly honors were spread around on the McCann football team for efforts in last weekend's loss to Monument Mt. Mike Gagne and Jim Horbal shared defensive player of the week honors, and Scott Thompson, Joe Ellsworth and Paul Kupiec were cited on offense.

NORTH ADAMS -- Peter Belmonte of 172 Barbour St. has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is one of only four scouts to recently receive the award. Mr. Belmonte, 17, son of Paul and Elaine Burdick, is a sophomore at Drury Senior High School. He joined the Boy Scouts at age seven and is currently a member of Troop 88.

Scarafoni and Len Allyn finished first with a score of 67 to defeat Tom Bergeron and Mike Majka. In a three-way tie for third were Joey Pohle and Ed Budz, Peter Gordon and John Flin and Dick Barber and Ralph Strolis, all with a 68.

CHESHIRE -- In Cheshire Youth Football, Lanesborough defeated Cheshire 8-0 in Squirts Division play. Cory Gallup led the Cheshire de fense with six tackles, while Zack Brassard, Mitchell Graves, Joey Messer, Ben Kelson, Quinn Whitney and Devon Burke all played well.
