Hospital hands off on suspect medicine: NORTH ADAMS -- A back pain medication contaminated with a fungus that has been tied to a deadly meningitis outbreak affecting seven states was never distributed at North Adams Regional Hospital, hospital officials said Friday afternoon.

Raid nets marijuana, pills, cash: ADAMS -- A local man was arraigned Friday in Northern Berkshire District Court on charges stemming from a Thursday raid on his residence by the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.

Authorities report finding marijuana with a street value of $1,700, Percocet with a street value of $180 and $360 in cash in the raid.

Plowing contract contested: NEW ASHFORD -- The process by which New Ashford awarded its snowplowing contract was questioned at this week’s Selectmen’s meeting.

Resident Jack Haig said the board’s decision to change the contract from two years to one and removing the performance bond requirement before awarding it to the project’s one bidder wasn’t fair.

A representative from the Massachusetts Office of the Inspector General said that while snowplow contracts are exempt from Chapter 30B state procurement laws, what New Ashford did wasn’t the best practice for such contracts.

Knife allegedly pulled at Greylock Glen: ADAMS -- An Adams man was arraigned on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly pulled a knife on two men walking their dogs in the Greylock Glen on Thursday.
