ADAMS -- Isadore Biros, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Biros of 9 Richmond lane, and Alvin Barrett, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Barrett of Farnams, who enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the "Buddy" program, went to Great Lakes, Ill. Naval Station to begin basic training. Both youths are June graduates of Adams Memorial High School. NORTH ADAMS -- Army 2nd Lt. John Gagnon, 21, son of Mrs. Mary Gagnon of 54 Marietta St., is home on leave after completing the nine-week officer orientation course at the Transportation School at Fort Eustis, Va. He is a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School and a June graduate of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

CHESHIRE -- Five Hoosac Valley football players received four Hurricane letters each for their performance against Brat tleboro last Saturday in Hoosac Valley’s 24-0 win. Craig Mars zalek, Aaron Mar tel, Chris Pro vost, Bob Bourdon and Ben Rob inson earned four letters apiece.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Shawn Flaherty and Dan Dufur grabbed top weekly honors on the Mt. Greylock football team for work in the Mounties’ 36-8 trouncing of Commerce. Flaherty was named the top defensive player and Dufur was the top Honor Roll performer for the offense. Other defensive honors went to Shawn Mahony, Ray MacWhinnie, Rob Nugent and Kevin Joseph.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Taconic Golf Club recently held its Men’s Fall Member/Guest Tournament. Low gross winners with a 64 were John Bourdon, Ralph Dastoli, Mark Chylinski, and Scott Hunter, followed by Steve Crowe, Bob Haley, George Garivaltis and Ed Putnam with 67. Low net winners were Frank Lentine, Chris Shannon, Bud Clark and Hal Limmer.

ADAMS -- Carole Kalisz, a teacher at St. Stanislaus Kostka School, is one of the recipients of the 2002 Catholic School Teacher Award from the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Spring field. This year’s honorees were chosen by their peers and are considered to be a witness of their faith and teachers who uphold the Catholic values and ideas to their students.
