Littany of drug, gun charges: NEW ASHFORD -- Emmett I. Harvin, 38, of Old Williamstown Road in New Ashford, was arraigned on charges of two counts of possession of a firearm without a Firearm Identification Card, two counts of trafficking a Class B drug and single counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, unsecured firearm and distributing a Class A drug, subsequent offense, in Northern Berkshire District Court on Wednesday.
Two others were arrested on charges related to the bust. Chad D. Myers, 33, of Pine Street in Lanesborough, was arraigned on charges of possession of a Class A drug, conspiracy to violate drug law and possession of drug paraphernalia. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 29; and Thomas H. Perrea Jr., 31, of Marco Drive in Pittsfield, was arraigned on charges of possession of a Class A drug and conspiracy to

The new look of Hoosac Hall: NORTH ADAMS -- Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts celebrated the renovations to its Hoosac Hall dormitory today with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

A new strategy for middle school building: ADAMS -- Wednesday night’s Selectmen’s workshop at Town Hall saw a new RFP for the former Adams Memorial Middle School that divides the building’s space. Additionally, warrant articles were approved for the town’s Oct. 29 special town meeting.

Broad scope to alleged thefts: NORTH ADAMS -- A woman arrested in New York last month for alleged larcenies and forgeries has been connected with a theft reported earlier this year in the city, and with thefts in a total of three states.
Patricia Howard, 52, of Albany, is being held in Saratoga County Jail on multiple charges of possession of stolen property and forgeries. She is also being charged with driving while intoxicated.

Councilor stands by assertions: NORTH ADAMS -- Despite assurances that the city’s Classification and Compensation Plan was handled correctly from the city’s external auditor and the state Department of Revenue’s Division of Local Services, City Councilor John Barrett III says he still believes the documents are full of errors.
"I thought this was a dead issue many months ago, but again there are so many inaccuracies here," he said during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. "One of them is that this is an issue of past versus current practices, not about the legality of the document. It is about past practice, which was legal. I don’t think what I’m saying is being understood."
