WILLIAMSTOWN -- The game was scoreless at halftime, but the Mount Greylock girls’ soccer team got the better of Monument Mountain 2-0 on Tuesday.
"We just kept at it," Greylock coach Tom Ostheimer said. "Our strength is speed up front. We were able to press their defense."
The Mounties broke the tie in the 53rd minute when Alexandra DeVeaux put a corner kick inside the six-yard box for Sophie Leamon’s first goal. The junior made it 2-0 at 61:08, taking a feed from Kelsey Orpin at the top of the box, moved around a defender and tucked the ball inside the far post.
Margot Besnard had six saves for the shutout.
Hoosac girls’ soccer
CHESHIRE -- Alessandra Arace scored twice for Lenox in the final five minutes of the first half, and the Millionaires never trailed again, beating the Hurricanes 3-1
"Even at the half, we felt we’d get one more," coach Blair Mahar said. "For the next 38 minutes, they had chances and we had chances. We couldn’t find the net."
Josie Marshall, who assisted on Arace’s second goal, put home an insurance tally with two minutes remaining in the contest.
Meg Rodowicz had Hoosac’s goal in the 7th minute to open the scoring.
McCann golf
GREENFIELD -- McCann’s Dylan Jordan had the low score for the Hornets with a 45, but it wasn’t enough as McCann lost to Franklin Tech, 161Ž2 - 71Ž2. Troy Miller of Franklin
MCLA volleyball
WESTFIELD -- MCLA dropped a three-set decision at Westfield State on Tuesday. The Owls (7-16, 4-1 in NESCAC) scored a 26-24, 25-13, 25-13 win over the Trailblazers (8-15, 1-4).
Lee’s Julia Warner had nine kills to pace Westfield. Brittany Kish led MCLA with 13 assists while Angelica Perfido led the Trailblazers with seven kills.
