POWNAL, Vt. -- An animal cruelty complaint lodged in August later led to the arrest of a town resident, Vermont State Police reported Wednesday.
According to a state police press release, a complaint was received on Aug. 27 of animal cruelty having taken place on Kings Way. Town resident Amber Kilbride, 20, told police that her dog slipped his collar, and shortly after, she heard gunshots at a neighboring residence, that of Donald Loveland, 51. She said the dog could not immediately be located, but the dog was later found deceased in the woods near the residence.
State police say that after an investigation, it was determined that the dog had been shot. Following the investigation, police say Loveland was arrested for animal cruelty. He was issued a citation to appear in Bennington County Superior Court, Criminal Division on Nov. 12.
