CHESHIRE -- Nick Ryan scored two goals to key Hoosac Valley High School boys soccer team to a 3-0 win over Mount Everett on Thursday, pushing the Hurricanes to within a point of qualifying for the Western Mass. Tournament, a stunning turnaround from a year ago, when Hoosac won just once. Hoosac is 7-5-1 with the win.
"I don't think it was me so much as it was the players believing in themselves," said new Hurricane coach Camilo Bermudez. "That was the important thing."
As for the game, "I think we controlled the play," said Bermudez. "They had some good scoring chances, but they didn't finish. We finished. I know Mount Everett has some real injury issues. But they played hard all game."
Greylock volleyball
SHEFFIELD -- The Moun ties continued their strong play in the second half of the season with this sweep of the Eagles, 25-10, 25-21 and 25-20.
Michala Dean had six aces, five digs and nine kills for Greylock. Teammate Meredith Dezieck added 16 service points, four aces and four kills while Hope Willis had seven kills.
For Mount Everett, seniors Danielle Guidi had four aces and three kills, Krista Reynolds had three aces and two digs, Alex Hoover had five digs and an ace and Melissa Abbott had three kills.
MCLA volleyball
NORTH ADAMS -- The Trailblazers lost the conference match-up to Salem State in four sets 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 25-13, 25-23). The Trailblazers fall
The Vikings came out of the locker room hot, winning the first set 25-21 behind an offensive performance from Emily Peay who had three kills on five attempts.
A Kendra Hobbs block ended set two in a high-energy 25-22 victory to pull MCLA even at 1 set apiece.
But sets three and four went to the visiting Vikings.
Brittany Kish had 30 assists and 11 digs on the evening, while teammate Kelley Bryant led the team with 19 digs.
