An 81-year-old woman from Williamstown has been identified as the woman killed when the vehicle she was in slid out of control on a Sandy-slickened western Pennsylvania highway and rolled over into a pond.
The accident happened just after 9:30 p.m. Monday when 51-year-old Abigail O’Connor, of Confluence, lost control of the car she was driving on slushy Route 281 in Upper Turkeyfoot Township. That’s about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
O’Connor’s mother, Alice Hynes, 81, of Williamstown, was killed when the Honda CRV overturned into a small farm pond trapping her under water.
State Trooper Christopher Allen tells the Daily American of Somerset that O’Connor was unable to free her mother before emergency crews pulled O’Connor from the vehicle.
Crews were unable to revive Hynes, who is believed to have drowned.
