WILLIAMSTOWN -- Margot Besnard made 12 saves in regulation, added four in the overtime periods and then made a diving stop in the first round of penalty kicks. Her efforts were enough to spur the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team past Hoosac Valley, 4-2 in penalties and into the Western Massachusetts Division II semifinals.
And just for good measure, she scored in the first round of penalty kicks for the Mounties.
The teams played a scoreless first half before Hoosac's Lily Kronick snuck a shot past Besnard for a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute. The lead didn't last long as Greylock's Sophie Leamon tied the contest less than a minute later. She beat Hoosac keeper Meg Richardson with a hard shot that banked off the post and in.
They continued to swap chances for the remainder of regulation and in both 10-minute overtime periods.
Besnard opened the penalty kick round by scoring with a hard shot that beat Richardson to the left. She then stopped Hoosac's Danielle Beauchemin on Hoosac's first shot by diving to her left.
Miranda Bucky, Melissa Swann and Mackenzie Flynn all added goals for the Mounties during the shootout.
Courtney Hayer and Jen Gale scored for the Hurricanes.
The victory pushes Mount Greylock into the semifinal game against unbeaten Belchertown, at a date and location to be determined.
