50 years ago today

ADAMS -- A safe-driving citation attesting to his 32-year record of accident free driving was presented to Ralph Anthony of West Road, rural free delivery carrier for the Adams Post Office, by Acting Postmaster John Wilk. Mr. Anthony, who has been rural carrier in Adams for the past 39 years, has won the safety award each year since it was established 32 years ago. NORTH ADAMS -- Laurentia Windover, daughter of City Councillor and Mrs. Fred Windover of Maple Street, will represent Hood College in the 1962-63 publication of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Miss Windover was one of five seniors selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service to the college, and promise of future usefulness to the community.

25 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Area 4-Hers were guests at the annual 4-H Capon Banquet hosted by the Williamstown Lions Club last week at Four Acres Restaurant. Maury McCarthy of Williamstown received top honors and turned in her heaviest capon which weighed 11.98 lbs. David Bugbee of Clarksburg received a second place ribbon for his 11.41 lb. capon.

ADAMS -- John Zelazo, a real estate broker from Adams, has established his own real estate brokerage in the Mother Town, Tomahawk Realty. Mr. Zelazo has been a real estate sales associate since 1975, and a licensed broker since early this year. Tomahawk Realty is doing

10 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- With the Williamstown Fire District’s chief retiring in December, its governing body elected a 15-year veteran to take over the position. By a unanimous vote of the Prudential Committee, Craig Pedercini was appointed to the district’s top job, effective Jan. 1, 2003. After 16 years as chief, Edward McGowan opted to take part in the early retirement program.

ADAMS -- The Board of Selectmen narrowed the list of 39 people for the town administrator’s selection committee down to nine at Wednesday’s meeting. The committee members are Daniel Doyle, Regina Hill, Bruce McAndrews, Barbara Meczywor, Peg Mekdeci, Joseph Nowak, Rosemarie Stachura, Alfred Skrocki and Howard Wineberg.
