50 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Sp. 4 John Rosenburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Rosenburg of Berlin Road, has been named soldier of the month with the 2nd Target Acquisition Bat talion. Sp. 4 Rosenburg has been stationed for the past 15 months in Stuttgart, Germany. He enlisted in August, 1960 and took his basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. WILLIAMSTOWN -- Dr. Paul Clark, professor of economics at Williams College, has been named acting chairman of the Center for Devel opment Economics at Wil liams, effective Jan. 1. Dr. Clark has been a member of the Williams faculty since 1949 and has been director of research of the Center since it was founded in 1959.

NORTH ADAMS -- The North Adams Lodge of Elks has announced "Students of the Month" for September.

They are Krista Hartman, Ellen O’Connor and Timothy Shepard. Hartman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hart man of Daniels Road, Clarks burg, is a senior at Drury High School. O’Connor, daughter of Margaret and John O’Connor of 11 Colonial Ave., Wil liams town, is a senior at Mt. Greylock Regional High School.

Shepard, son of Charles and Virginia Shepard of 14 Quaker St., Adams, is a senior at McCann.

NORTH ADAMS -- Chad Anderson and Chad Jzyk each had three goals, helping the Patten Corporation Canadiens to a 7-2 Pee Wee hockey win over the Williamstown Bank Kings. John Barbuto

aided the Canadiens with three assists and Rob Stack had the winners’ other goal.

Jason Lesure and Anderson each added an assist. Adam Jones and Warren Winarski scored for the Kings, and Trev or Anderson had an assist.

10 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- Marcia Messina recently graduated from a trainee position to that of branch office administrator at the North Adams office of the financial-services firm, Edward Jones.

She was promoted after successfully completing the firm’s in-depth training program. She joined Edward Jones after working as an investment representative at ING Aetna in Amherst.

POWNAL -- Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class James Mot tor, son of JoAnne and Mike Mottor of North Pownal, re cently visited the port of Naples, Italy, while assigned to Heli copter Anti-Submarine Squad ron 15, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, VA. Mottor joined the Navy in August 1993.
